Learning how to do daily exercise at home has to begin with changing your mindset. Believing that exercise is only productive if done in intense gym sessions will only discourage you from working out. All you need to do is consider your own fitness goals instead of comparing them to others’ goals. Exercise can be as simple as daily walking or as intense as running frequent marathons!

Take the time to seriously consider what your goals are for exercising. Do you want to lose weight or just maintain your current weight? Perhaps you want to build strength. Write down your goals in a place that’s easy for you to look at them. Once you’ve done this, you can look at your weekly schedule and find times that will work for you. Days where you are less busy can be used for more extended fitness periods. The days where you are busy can be used for significantly shorter periods of exercise.

Figuring out how to do daily exercise at home doesn’t mean you have to change everything about your health. So, major diet changes aren’t always necessary depending on your goals. However, you may still want to take some time to look at what you’re eating and drinking every day. A chance in your fitness routine may mean making sure you’re drinking more water, as well as eating enough calories to keep you energized.

You don’t need an entire personal gym just to figure out how to do daily exercise at home! All you need is a small space that is dedicated to exercise. This can be a large corner in your living room, a small room with fitness gear, or even just a spot on the floor where you can fit an exercise mat. The bigger the better, but you can make do with anything!

This area is where you should commit to doing most of your longer exercise routines. Having a space that’s designated to working out allows you to stay more focused while you’re exercising. Since you’ll only be used to working out in the spot, you’ll be less likely to find distractions in the thing around you.

If you have large pieces of exercise equipment, then great! Set these up in your spot. This could include a treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machines, or even a set of weights. If you don’t have the resources to have these in your home, you can make do with some smaller essentials. Proper exercise can be done with 0 equipment. However, having a gym mat or yoga mat is essentials. They ensure that you stay comfortable and safe when doing exercises.

Other smaller pieces that you should consider investing in are small and versatile weights, resistance bands, a jump rope, or even a mini stair stepper.

Learn how to exercise in a way that meets your goals

Doing the exact same exercise routine every day is an easy way to fail at meeting your goals. It can work for some people, but not others. Having an identical workout each day can lead to you getting bored much easier than if you mix it up. It can also lead to your muscles getting used to the workout, which can prevent them from getting even stronger.

Is your goal weight loss? Look into a variety of cardio workouts. This will ensure that you’re sweating and burning the calories needed to lose weight. This type of exercise usually involves things like jumping rope, using an exercise bike, or walking on a treadmill. While cardio is one of the most recommended ways to lose weight, you may also want to consider adding strength training to support your progress.

Gaining strength can also be done at home. Plenty of exercises can be done with minimal to no equipment, like push-ups. You can also find small sets of weights that are easy to keep at home. As with cardio, you don’t want to limit yourself to one type of workout. So, consider adding in aerobic workout routines to fully support your improvement.

Not exercising to lose weight or gain strength? Many people are happy with their current body type or level of fitness and are more interested in working out just to keep their heart and body healthy. In this case, you may want to consider doing less intense periods of both cardio and strength training. Even going for more walks can help you lower your risk of strokes and heart attacks. Buying a treadmill and going for daily walks is an underrated and efficient form of exercise!

While your dedicated workout space is important when figuring out how to do daily exercise at home, you can also do smaller things to benefit your health. If you want to keep yourself moving every day, there are things you can do throughout the day.

Keeping track of your daily steps is one of the most simple ways to do daily exercise. This can be tracked on most smartphones. There are also watches that will track your steps for you. Once you’ve found a way to track your steps, you’ll need to decide what your goals are. A common target is 10,000 steps, which is considered appropriate for most adults. However, it can be lower or higher, depending on your current fitness level.

If you aren’t reaching your daily step count from your regular activities, use it as an incentive to keep moving! Clean your house, take more trips up and down the stairs, or do things like jumping jacks throughout the day to increase your number and get closer to your goals.

As mentioned above, even cleaning your home can be an exercise. We’ve all been in a mood where cleaning is at the bottom of our priority list. Though, blasting some music and throwing on your sneakers can make it fun! Dance your way through your cleaning, do squats between tasks, or just clean as fast as you can to build up a sweat and get in your steps and some more exercise. You can find daily chores to do or wait until the weekend to make it an entire workout.

Many people find yoga to be a beneficial morning workout. If you don’t have time to do a full exercise routine during the day, or just love the relaxing benefits of yoga, consider implementing it into your morning routine. Benefits of morning yoga include anxiety relief, flexibility benefits, and improvements in focus and clarity that can last the whole day.

Another favourite of ours is to take short fitness breaks whenever you get the chance. Incorporating these small exercises will be one of the most straightforward but impactful ways to learn how to do daily exercise at home.

Whether it’s between episodes of television, while waiting for food to heat up, or while waiting for the shower to warm up, it’s always a good opportunity to utilize a quick burst of energy. Do a set of 10 squats, push-ups or lunges during these brief breaks. While they may seem like a small thing to do, the number will add up as you find yourself having more opportunities to do them!
